Collection: Clivia Plants
Potted Clivias (Pick up only)
Pine Mountain Nursery is recognised as a specialist in breeding elite clivia for over 30 years through a rigorous genetic tracking program. The massive genetic pool is built from superior imported seeds from breeders in China, Europe, Japan, South Africa and the US. The nursery does not sell seed because like children they can all end up different and this is particularly so in the breeding of new cultivars. The focus is on multi-generational line breeding to create new traits utilising diploid, triploid and tetraploid cultivars. Many of these elite clivia are grown up to flowering size and sold on www.bestclivias.com.au from mid-August through to mid-October. During this period enthusiasts may, by appointment, come and view new creations and purchase flowering plants.
These new creations include sought after forms in green or various variegated leaf forms like:
- Multi-petals: Flowers that have 8 to 12 petals instead of the standard 6 in bronze, orange, cream/yellow, pastel and peach colours;
- Double flowers: Flowers that have whorls of petals typically containing more than 20 petals;
- Particolor flowers: Highly prized by collectors for their changing patterned gene expression across the flowers as they age;
- Picotees & Bicolors: Blooms with distinct, contrasting borders or edges on the petals;
- 777 flowers: Highly prized blooms known for unique “quadricolor” florets blending pink, cream, green and red hues;
- Splash flowers: Streaks of contrasting white or cream stripes over standard orange, red, or peach backgrounds.
- Stripe flowers: Blooms with distinct gold or yellow stripes or patterned effects spreading out over the inner side of petals from the centre;
- Versicolor flowers: Blooms feature two different colours on a single petal. The back of petals can display dark orange, pink, or red colours. Inside petal typically has a bright yellow, peach or cream colours;
- Watercolour flowers: Fine edging bordering around the outside of petals in contrast to a similar but paler shade of the petal creating flower depth.
- White lip flowers: Blooms with pale or white edges on either side of the inner petals;
- Interspecifics: Crosses between different Clivia species. These can change colour depending on the light.
